State Council issues guideline on promoting agricultural high-tech demonstration zones

 China will step up efforts to promote development of agricultural high-tech industrial demonstration zones, according to a guideline issued by the State Council on Jan 29.

Provincial governments to enhance farmland protection

 The State Council recently released a revised version of assessment measures for provincial governments’ work on farmland protection, to strictly protect farmland and defend the “red line”.

China to train farmers as part of agricultural sector reform

 BEIJING, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) - China said it will train farmers in an effort to promote the innovation-driven development and supply-side structural reform in the agricultural sector.

China revises regulation to reform salt industry

 BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) - China has revised a regulation on common salt in an effort to reform the salt industry. The regulation says that provincial supervisory departments should designate salt manufacturers and wholesalers, and that salt prices should be set by operators themselves

China's ICAMA adjusts HS codes of some pesticides in 2018

 According to information from the Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA), it adjusted the commercial codes of some products, which involves one pesticide. Its HS code is adjusted to 29341090 from 29341000, which will be used starting from 1 Jan., 2018. The Release Notices of Pesticide Import and Export Registration Management about the products signed before that date can still declare at the customs within the valid period.

China's environmental tax and emission permit system in place, pesticide supply under higher pressure

 The Environmental Protection Tax Law of the People's Republic of China was implemented on January 1, 2018 and each local government has to date released its criteria for the collection of environment tax to be levied soon. 

China relaxes regulations for investors in free trade zones

 BEIJING - The State Council has decided to ease regulations for enterprises investing in free trade zones (FTZs) to promote reform and opening up, a notice said on Jan 9.

China's outbound investment faces tighter supervision

 Although China's outbound investment slowed down in 2017, the country has shown no intention of changing its approach.

China's farm produce prices retreat last week

 BEIJING, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) - The price index for China's farm produce slightly retreated in the week ending Jan. 21 compared with the previous week, ending a nine-week rising streak, according to a Ministry of Commerce statement.

 The World Trade Organization (WTO) has ruled in favor of the United States, determining that China had failed to comply with an earlier ruling and faulting them for antidumnping and countervailing duties imposed on U.S. chicken imports.

Alibaba Cloud and Longping High-Tech join hands in AI farming

 Alibaba Cloud Computing Ltd announced a strategic cooperation with Longping High-Tech and CITIC Cloud to promote the application of the Alibaba ET to agricultural production, where ET would be used in breeding, seed selection, infrastructure datamation, farming management, selection of location and forecast of crop production outcome. This was announced at the Computing Conference held in Beijing last week.

Domestic wine giant Changyu buys stake in Kilikanoon Estate

 Chinese winery Yantai Changyu Wine Co bought an 80 percent stake in the Clare Valley's award-winning Kilikanoon Estate in Australia for AUD $20.6 million ($16.4 million).The deal was signed at a ceremony held in Adelaide, Australia, Jan 18.

Stine Seed enters Chinese seed market

 Chinese farmers will have access to more corn genetic technology starting next year. Stine Seed Company has long kept relations with China, and recently sealed their relationship through a collaborative agreement with Bejing W. Seed.

 A Silicon Valley agriculture startup is preparing to build 300 vertical farms across China, propelled by investments from funds created by Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos and Alphabet executive chairman Eric Schmidt.
