China's draft soil pollution law to levy hefty fines

 Companies or individuals who cause pollution on farmland or at construction sites could be hit with fines of up to 2 million yuan ($297,000) if a new law is approved.

Three-year long approval made by China to import two new GMO crop varieties

 China, the world's top buyer of genetically modified (GMO) soybeans, renewed the import approvals for 14 GMO crop varieties and approved the import of two new varieties starting on June 12, the Ministry of Agriculture said on Wednesday.
