China halts corn reserve purchasing to let price float

 The corn harvest is in full swing in north China. This year, however, the government ceased its corn reserve purchasing program, which had protected the corn price to ensure farmers continue to grow the staple grain, causing the corn price to drop.

China extends transition period for cross-border e-commerce imports supervision

Hybrid rice sets new world record in production

 Yuan Longping, renowned Chinese developer of hybrid rice, has set a new world record. A hybrid rice project headed by Yuan has achieved an annual yield of 1,537.78 kilograms of rice per mu (about 0.07 hectares) of farmland, authorities announced Saturday in Xingning City in south China's Guangdong Province.

China's pig meat imports more than double in Jan.-Sept.

 China’s imports of fresh/frozen pork increased a whopping 160% to 516,000 tonnes during the third quarter, compared with the same period in 2015. This takes import volumes in the first nine months to 1.28 million tones, well over double last year’s figure.

Europe's largest pork producer says to open plant in China

 Danish food processing company, Danish Crown, plans to invest about 300 million Danish kroner (44 million U.S. dollars) in building a processing and retail product plant in China, the company announced on Wednesday.

BRF announces moves in Chinese and Muslim markets

 BRF subsidiary, BRF GmbH, entered into a cornerstone agreement with COFCO Meat Holdings Limited. BRF has announced in a press release that the transaction was concluded, acquiring a total of 77.583.000 shares or 1.99% stake in COFCO. BRF originally informed the public of the company’s intentions in an announcement to the market disclosed on October 18.
